Session Descriptions

SpeakerSelfieWorkshopDescription
Fionn CollinsTrans Mental HealthMental health as any person can be tough but also as a trans person there can be added pressure! This session aims to create a space to talk about mental health in general but also specifically about being trans and the differences.
Fionn Collins + James CurryLGBTQ+ & SportsSports are a great way to stay fit and to build a community of people who love doing the same thing. Sadly, sports are still perceived as quite hetero-normative and homo-negative in our day and age. This workshop will be an open and safe space to discuss what it means to be LGBTQ+ in sports and ways to participate in sport and how we as a community can go forward breaking these stigmas.
Fionn CollinsSo you are trans and want to have sexSex seems to be a taboo topic for some, never mind being trans on top of that. This space is going to talk about spicy topics about how trans people have sex and busting some myths about trans people, sex and how they have sex! This safe space is for trans people, gender nonconforming people, partners of trans people, and more! Let’s talk about sex babyyyyy
Fionn Collins + Bláth LongmoreGay-LigeA fun, casual talk about how to use Irish as a queer in Ireland. Doesn’t matter if you’re picking someone up on a night out or discussing Pride. Cúpla Focal for Cúpla Queers
Aoife Meagher + Michael RunswickQueer Music HistoryMusic has always been used to tell a story, so let’s talk about ours shall we? Queer music has had many eras, influenced social change and pop culture at large, but most importantly, brought us some amazing songs! Learn about what makes “queer music” from ballroom, to punk, to hip hop, to pop or EDM, whatever takes your fancy!
Aoife MeagherBody Positivity-Loving your Queer BodySocial media, gender stereotypes and the queer community, what does this all mean for loving and accepting yourself? A seemingly unending maze of what ifs, and doubt. (Sounds a bit dramatic, I know! But we love a good metaphor). This workshop is all about learning to accept and love your body and who you are, learning from each other and knowing you’re not alone with your feelings.
Jenny MaguireHow to be a Queer ActivistJenny Maguire leads a workshop on making your activism the most meaningful and effective it can be.

Jenny is a co-organiser of Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin (TIPD), having previously served as both LGBT+ Rights officer and Gender Equality officer of TCDSU. TIPD organises protests and community events across the Capitol, regularly attracting thousands from across the country. As well as the annual Trans and Intersex Pride, TIPD has organised vigils to allow our community to mourn, anti-fascist rallies against those who wish us harm, and stunts against the systems that oppress us.

Whether it be for accessing transgender healthcare, fighting for more equitable access to PrEP, or supporting queer people at a local level, Jenny will discuss ways we can utilise  our strengths and weaknesses in an interactive workshop so we can build a brighter and fairer world.
Gillian McInerneyAlphabet SoupAlphabet Soup is an introduction to the words used by and about the LGBTQIA+ community. This session aims to give all delegates an equal understanding of the basics and allows a space for questions to be asked anonymously via Menti.
Gillian McInerneyQueer Health ServicesAn exploration of the current health services aimed at the LGBTQIA+ community, including sexual health, mental health and physical health. This session looks at mapping the existing services, and discussing the barriers LGBTQIA+ people face in healthcare.
Ross BoydAroAce101A session that is open to those Aroace, questioning or allies wanting to know more about the Aroace spectrum, this session will cover the full range of the asexual and aromantic spectrums and highlighting how the ‘A’ is not silent.

This session will give an explanation into what aromanticism, and asexuality is, as well as types of attraction, the split attraction model, and individual attitudes to both sex and romance.

This session will also give a societal analysis into the Aroace communities, explaining its long history of existence as well as the battle for recognition and barriers still faced by the Aroace community, both who individuals and the community generally and in the LGBTQ+ community.

This workshop is being delivered by someone aroace-spec and I hope you’re able to come along!

Aoife MurraySex on the PeachJoin us for a peachy time discussing anal play. You’ll learn about exploring anal pleasure in a fun and risk informed way. From douching to dildos we’ve got you covered.

Open to all genders and sexualities. We’ll discuss a wide array of play options that accounts for varying identity and anatomy.

Fair warning – you’ll have to tolerate Aoife’s peach related puns!
Gillian McInerneyVulvas and VaginasFor vulva owners and non-vulva owners alike, this session looks at anatomy including the diversity of anatomy and offers a space for delegates to ask questions and discuss the realities of vulva and vagina ownership in 2023.
Robbie LawlorHow to Thrive with HIVYou might have learned about reproductive health and some basics about STIs in school, but have you ever wondered what it’s actually like to live with an STI? Today, I’m going to share my personal journey of living with HIV. My story touches on various aspects including receiving my HIV diagnosis, navigating treatment options, confronting and overcoming stigma, ways to disclose your HIV status, thriving with HIV, and how you can support and be an ally to the community. At the end of the session, we’ll have a Q&A segment where I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have about HIV or sexual health in general. It’s going to be fun!
SwitchboardChems, Chemsex and AddictionAn open and honest discussion on Chems/drugs, the ChemSex scene & Addiction.
What to be aware of, what are the dangers, how can you mitigate some of the risk, what does addiction really look like?
What can you do if you, or someone you know, may be struggling with their use of a substance or behaviour?
A facility to ask anonymous questions will be provided on the day through Menti. Come along if you want to know more, are worried for yourself or someone else, or even if you have been considering exploring the ChemSex scene and would like more information on how to keep safe.
SwitchboardSwitchboard at 50The Switchboard helpline is Irelands oldest LGBTQIA+ support service, turning 50 in 2024. This session will take a look at queer history in Ireland and globally throughout the history of the helpline, exploring the journey our community had undergone in five decades.
Gillian McInerneySelfcareThis Sunday morning session offers a space to decompress with colouring pages and a gentle chat about what we do for self care. We will look at all elements of self care from physical to sexual to spiritual as well as knowing when self care alone isn’t enough.
Brian JordanHow to Run a LGBTQ+ SocietySo you want to get involved in societies? Let us (hopefully) be of help!

In this interactive session we’ll be going through things such as where to even start, fundraising, finances, events and more!

We’ll be encouraging students to share events and brainstorm ideas (if they feel comfortable – no pressure zone).

Open to prospective committee members, current committee members, or anyone who’s looking to fill an hour of their day. Everyone welcome!
Hannah KellyDisability and AllyshipIn this session, we will explore what allyship is and how to be an ally to the disabled community. The session will include practical tips for anyone on club or society committees for making communications and events accessible. You’ll leave this session feeling more confident on how to be inclusive and supportive of peers with disabilities, an understanding of the relationship between language and disabilities and knowledge of practical tips to implement. Input about lived experience and viewpoints from disabled attendees are very welcome.
Ohas BerylRace and LGBT BIPOC LGBT IN IRELAND
Gillian McInerneryPlus (+) 101Ever wonder what comes under the + of LGBT+? Then this session is for you! We will look at the different identities outside the Big Four, allowing space for questions and personal experiences.
Dykon EventsDykon: Creating Queer Women Safe SpacesMafalda will talk through the story behind Dykon. Her own coming out journey, struggles of moving to a new country alone, accepting herself and how she created a nightclub event without any experience. We will dive into the importance of queer safe spaces and leave room for any questions.
James Curry + Aoife HynesNon-Monosexual-IsmAoife Hynes and fellow flaming bisexual James Curry present a session on the different brands of multi-gender attraction. While labels don’t matter they’re still pretty good to know. Nice, open discussion on non-monosexual identities, exploring your sexuality and probably a few rants about bi-erasure. Don’t know what else we’ll cover. Wouldn’t want to be too greedy.
Kyran KeoghQuestioning your IdentityGender?  In this economy?  Join Kyran Keogh on a journey of self exploration, full of ups, downs, sexy times, existential times, and eventually… acceptance and understanding.  Questioning Your Identity is a gender-focused workshop that delves into all the options opened up when people question their identities, a look into what gender means and how it can translate to each individual, and how it can feel connecting to the queer community when you’re questioning.
Robbie LawlorPrEP, PEP and Sexual Health TestingThis workshop will be a one-shop stop to everything you need to know about different HIV prevention methods. In 2022, gay and bisexual cis men accounted for 58% of all first-time HIV diagnoses in Ireland. However, HIV doesn’t discriminate and can affect people of all genders and sexualities.

The encouraging news is that Ireland is seeing a decline in new HIV diagnoses. In this session, we will navigate the challenges of accessing PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis), discuss why PEP (Post-exposure Prophylaxis) is a viable option, delve into the science behind U=U (Undetectable equals Untransmittable), and explain what to expect during a sexual health test.

Niamh KennedyRunning Alternative Pride EventsIn the current climate of heightened violence against the LGBTQ+ community, and the crisis of the cost of living, access to space has become more difficult for queer and trans communities. Even at events such as Pride, the celebration of community can become secondary in favor of commercialized parties where ticket prices can often be inaccessible for many queer and trans folks.

We say less sweatshop-produced rainbow flags, more shaking arse and loving the people around us. Do you want to create events that cater to lovers and others: to trans women and men, butches and bisexuals, fags and femmes, sapphics and stones, and everyone in-between? Come to Neevs’ session about creating pride events and communities separate from corporations, brands and pink-washing.
